HCSF + CHLA: New Study Highlights Impact of SF Bay Area Hotels on Local Communities

The San Francisco Bay Area hotel sector is crucial for our guests, our employees, and our community. That’s why we are partnering with CHLA to share key findings from their Hotel Caring initiative study, conducted in partnership with Oxford Economics. The information can help arm you with important statistics regarding the impact of our industry in the region.

The Hotel Caring initiative released Tuesday by the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA) showcased the impact of hotels throughout the state and in key California cities and regions. Oxford Economics conducted a statewide survey this summer and compiled the data in partnership with CHLA.

Thanks to each of you who participated in the survey this summer and to Oxford Economics, who were faithful stewards of the data. The results concluded:

  • San Francisco Bay Area hotels contributed a total of $6 million in the form of cash, in-kind donations, fundraising, scholarships, and food drive donations in 2023

  • San Francisco Bay Area hotel employees volunteered 23,000 hours for various activities ranging from beach clean-ups to blood drives in 2023

  • San Francisco Bay Area hotels provided $1.6 billion in job earnings in 2023

  • San Francisco Bay Area hotels helped generate $8.8 billion in tourism spending in 2023

The statewide results are publicly available on the Hotel Caring website. Oxford Economics, one of the world’s foremost independent global advisory firms, worked with CHLA to provide third-party credentialing of the data.
