An aging SoMa hotel is shedding its skin with a massive overhaul that will give it a new flag, boutique status and a sharper edge in San Francisco’s increasingly competitive hospitality market.
Dallas-based owner Braemar Hotels & Resorts is funneling $30 million into what will soon be the former Courtyard San Francisco Downtown. Come January 2020, the hotel at 299 Second St. will reopen as The Clancy — a boutique hotel that will be added to Marriott International’s (NASDAQ: MAR) Autograph Collection.
The 410-room hotel will remain open throughout the renovation. It will join Lower Nob Hill’s Hotel Adagio as the second Autograph property in the Bay Area, but The Clancy will be managed by Marriott rather than on an independent basis.
