The Friends of the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women awarded Kevin Carroll the United Nations CEDAW Award for Leadership. CEDAW is the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

Kevin Carroll is the Executive Director of the Hotel Council of San Francisco. The Hotel Council was established in 1987 as a non-profit organization to represent all segments of the Hotel Industry. Kevin serves as the key community liaison between the Hotel Council and City, State, and National Government Agencies as well as community and travel industry organizations. He is a media spokesperson for the San Francisco hotel industry. He is the Chair of the Workforce Investment Board San Francisco. Kevin also serves on the Boards of the San Francisco Travel Association, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and the Community Alliance for Jobs and Housing.

The Hotel Council has partnered with the Department on the Status of Women on programs regarding Human Trafficking and the education of hospitality workers on identifying potential trafficking victims. The Council organizes an annual Women in Leadership Forum that includes over 600 attendees and features the Department on the Status of Women in the program. The Council supported recent legislation on pay equity and lactation accommodation that have both been passed this year by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

The Council has worked with UNITE HERE! Local 2 and in collaboration with Equality and Inclusion in Hospitality to further their goal of building equity and inclusion in the workplace. The Council also supports the Primed and Prepped program at the Bayview YMCA. The organization works with education partners including the San Francisco Unified School District, City College of San Francisco, San Francisco State University and the University of San Francisco to assist and guide students into careers in the hospitality industry.

Prior to joining the Hotel Council, Kevin was the Executive Director of the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District. Kevin also was the Senior Manager of Worldwide Community Affairs for Levi Strauss & Co. and the Levi Strauss Foundation where he led global disaster response grant programs, employee volunteerism and cause marketing campaigns all focused on supporting women and girls.
