Early warnings of disease outbreaks can help governments and health officials respond to disease before an outbreak becomes an epidemic. Artificial intelligence can help with early detection by scanning global news reports, but it is still up to people to determine which AI-generated alerts are significant enough to warrant urgency. The first global alert of the Coronavirus was generated from an artificial intelligence disease alert system in Boston on December 30th, but it took days for researchers to recognize the magnitude of the problem.
