The Hotel Council of San Francisco Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the 2019 Peter Goldman Award of Excellence recipient is Shelia Martin!
Established in 1989, the Peter Goldman Award of Excellence honors an individual who exemplifies expertise, devotion and leadership to raise the level of service and perception of San Francisco’s hospitality industry.
Sheila Martin has over 30 years of experience within all facets of the hotel industry. In San Francisco, for the past 17 years, Sheila served as the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Financial District and then Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf and Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites overseeing two hotel brands. Other General Manager positions include Crowne Plaza Milpitas and Crowne Plaza Pleasanton. Sheila was recognized for her efforts and received the Hotel Council’s Bob Begley Lifetime Achievement award in 2017. She also has received the General Manager of the year award from (IHG). Sheila has served on the Hotel Council Board of Directors and most recently as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Sheila has also served on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Travel Association.
Sheila has been heavily involved in the San Francisco community, and she volunteers her time in addition to leading multiple hotel properties. She has supported multiple non-profits and ensured that the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf and Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites raised funds for the San Francisco Aids Walk, Breast Cancer Walk, Leukemia Lymphoma Society, American Heart Association, Gubbio Project, IHG Shelter in a Storm, and supporting the environment through Green Engage.
Sheila other passion is people. She is the past president of The Family Network, an adoption agency dedicated to building and nurturing families in California. Also, an active person in mentoring colleagues into successful roles in the San Francisco hospitality community. Encouraging them to exemplify and honor the character of the city as a welcoming and very diverse culture that makes San Francisco so unique.
