Bob Begley participated in the city’s hospitality industry for over fifty years. During that time, he managed Del Webb’s TowneHouse, Sir Francis Drake Hotel, and Le Meridien Hotel, as well as Moscone Convention Center.
Bob served as Executive Director of the Hotel Council since the association was established in 1987 until his retirement in 2004.
A native San Franciscan, and graduate of the University of San Francisco, Bob was a Past President of the California Hotel & Motel Association, San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Hotel Employers Association. He also served on the Boards of the California Hotel & Motel Association, San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, Industry Council on Hospitality Management at the University of San Francisco, and the Hotel & Restaurant Foundation. He was a 1995 Delegate to the White House Conference on Tourism. In 1998, Bob was inducted into the California Hotel & Lodging Association’s Hall of Fame. In 1999, he received the Richard Swig Leadership Award bestowed by the University of San Francisco Hospitality Management Program. In 2003, Bob received San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Silver Cable Car Award which recognizes contributions to San Francisco’s hospitality industry and its reputation as a visitor destination.
