BART's new Warm Springs/South Fremont station will finally start service March 2017.

Bay Area Rapid Transit's long-delayed extension project to Warm Springs finally has an opening date.

The project broke ground in 2009 and has since been pushed back year after year as BART works out incompatibilities with its old technology and training staffers on the modern equipment. Service will begin March 25 at the new station, with 2,082 parking spaces and connections to AC Transit and VTA buses. The 5-mile extension on the Fremont line is the first station to open as part of the agency's larger efforts to extend service to San Jose.
